From the evening of Thursday 14 February, traffic management will be in place on the Mitchell Freeway northbound, after the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel.

One lane will be closed and traffic will be diverted onto the emergency lane as a replacement. Speed reductions will also be in place.

This modified road layout will enable Abigroup to start building an extra lane on the freeway, from the city to Hutton Street.

This work will be undertaken in two stages to minimise disruption to northbound freeway traffic.
Abigroup will initially focus on the section from the city to Vincent Street, which includes construction of an extra lane and a new on-ramp from the Loftus Street exit.

During this time there may be a need to close the Sutherland Street-on ramp near City West. If required, this closure is expected to remain in place for three months and traffic wishing to enter the freeway will be detoured via Roe and Loftus streets.

From May to December 2013, Abigroup will complete the extra lane and bridge widenings from Vincent Street to Hutton Street.

Where possible, Abigroup will undertake night works to minimise disruption to road users.

As there will be speed reductions in place, motorists are advised to expect delays (especially during peak traffic periods) and seek alternative routes where practical. Please drive with caution and observe all traffic signage.

Lane narrowing, speed restrictions and lane closures continue on the Kwinana Freeway on ramp for traffic travelling west on Riverside Drive or south on William Street. The dual use path along the river remains open through this area.

Continuing lane closures will affect traffic on The Esplanade. Westbound traffic is fully closed along The Esplanade. Two lanes of eastbound traffic will be maintained with diversions in place. A 40 km/h speed limit is in place in all roadwork zones. As traffic delays are expected, the MRA recommends motorists to take an alternative route where possible.

Barrack Street – All northbound lanes on Barrack Street between Riverside Drive and The Esplanade will be closed from Tuesday 29 January and will be in place until June 2013. Southbound lanes in this area will remain open.

Traffic is reduced to one lane on Mounts Bay Road at the intersection of William Street and The Esplanade.

These changed road conditions are part of the Elizabeth Quay project and will be in place until Friday 25 January.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and seek alternative routes, such as Winthrop Avenue where practical.

Downer EDI has started construction of an extra lane along 7.2km of the Mitchell Freeway northbound, from Hepburn Avenue to Hodges Drive.

To facilitate these works, the right-hand freeway lane is closed from Hepburn Avenue and traffic is being directed onto the emergency lane. Speed reductions are also in place.

This project should take approximately 40 weeks to complete in two stages. The widening should take about 24 weeks and be finished by July 2013. Downer EDI Works will return in the 2013-2014 summer to resurface the existing lanes, which should take about 14 weeks.

Where possible, Downer EDI Works will also undertake night works to minimise disruption to peak hour traffic.
